Featured Presentation

Small Question/Big Answers

Speaker: Sean McCown, Owner MidnightSQL Consulting

Summary: The longest days in a DBA’s life start with small questions. Who has sysadmin in all of our databases? How big will our databases be next year? Which servers will be affected if we change the AD account password? If you’re a DBA in this shop and you have hundreds of databases, then your entire week just got really long. What you need is a way to organize your environment in such a way that you can get the answers easily and turn these into trivial questions. We’re going to show you how our new product Minion Enterprise lets you manage your environment in a way so that you get all of your time back. While Minion Enterprise can work wonders in your environment, we’re also going to discuss other ways to bring your shop under control.

About Sean: Sean McCown is a Certified Master in SQL Server 2008 and a SQL Server MVP with 20 years of experience in databases. He is also founder and co-owner of the MidnightDBA.com website, where he records free SQL Server training videos and co-hosts the popular web show DBAs@Midnight.

Power BI

Speaker: Brent Pearce Pentagal Consulting

Summary: PowerPivot, Power Query, PowerShell, Power View, Power BI all make great demos with great eye candy. But - when the show is over and you have a problem in hand just how useful are these tools? I will show how I use these tools to address a few of my customer’s data reporting challenges. If you are unfamiliar with these tools, perhaps you will walk away impressed with their power & agility. If you have dabbled with these tools, perhaps you will walk away with a few new tips/tricks. If you are an expert on these tools, perhaps you will join me in the chorus singing their praise.

About Brent: Brent Pearce is an independent consultant who provides analytic solutions based on Microsoft’s Power . He has served in many different roles in the IT industry over the past 30+ years, but none more fun and challenging than his current role of slinging data for his customers.
